Don Jazzy
Music executive and Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has revealed that parting ways with singer Di’Ja remains one of the most emotionally difficult decisions of his career in the Nigerian music industry.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, the producer real name Michael Collins Ajereh said the experience was deeply personal because he views all artistes under his label as family rather than business associates.
According to him, the conversation that led to Di’Ja’s exit was highly emotional, involving tears from both sides in the room. He explained that the moment was so difficult that he has since delegated such decisions to other members of the label’s management team.
“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’Ja go. That was difficult… I don’t think I will do that again by myself,” he said.
Don Jazzy added that Di’Ja herself was visibly affected during the discussion and questioned why he had to be present for such a painful decision, describing the atmosphere as emotional and overwhelming for everyone involved.
Di’Ja joined Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and went on to release several projects under the label, including singles and an EP that helped shape her early mainstream success.
Over the years, her status with the label has generated public discussion. In 2023, Di’Ja clarified that she did not formally “exit” the label, stating instead that circumstances and life changes shaped her reduced involvement.
Don Jazzy’s comments have reignited conversations about artist management, record label dynamics, and the emotional toll of business decisions in the entertainment industry, especially within close-knit creative teams like Mavin Records.
