Edo Government to renovate late Professor Ambrose Alli’s Residence

In a move to preserve the legacy of the former Governor of the defunct Bendel State, the Edo State Government has pledged to renovate the private residence of the late Professor Ambrose Alli in Ekpoma. The announcement, made on Monday, January 12, 2026, is part of a broader initiative by the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration to celebrate the state’s political icons and transform their historical sites into landmarks for future generations.

Professor Ambrose Alli, who served as Governor from 1979 to 1983, is widely remembered for his revolutionary policies in education most notably the founding of the university that now bears his name, and his extensive infrastructure projects across what are now Edo and Delta states. Over the years, his family residence in Ekpoma had reportedly fallen into a state of disrepair, leading to calls from his family and the Esan community for state intervention.

The renovation project is intended to restore the building to its former glory, with plans to potentially convert a portion of the residence into a museum or research center dedicated to his life and governance style. Government officials noted that this project is not merely an architectural update but a symbolic gesture of gratitude for Alli’s selfless service to the people. By preserving this site, the state aims to inspire current and future leaders to emulate the late professor’s dedication to public welfare and educational development.
