French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto have unveiled fresh partnerships between France and Kenya in the areas of technology, sports, arts, and youth development, as both leaders push for stronger cooperation between Africa and Europe.

The announcement was made on Monday during the opening activities of the Africa Forward Summit held at the University of Nairobi, where the two presidents interacted with students, entrepreneurs, athletes, and leading African creatives.

The summit focused heavily on innovation, digital transformation, and opportunities for young Africans in a rapidly evolving global economy. Macron emphasized that Africa and Europe must work together to reduce dependence on foreign technologies dominated by the United States and China.

According to the French leader, stronger collaboration between African talent and European technological expertise could help both continents build what he described as “strategic autonomy” in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, renewable energy, sports technology, and creative industries.

Macron also highlighted the growing influence of Africa’s creative sector, including music, film, fashion, and sports, describing young Africans as a driving force for global cultural and technological change. He said France was ready to increase investment in innovation hubs, cultural exchanges, and sports development programmes across the continent.

President Ruto, on his part, stressed that Africa’s greatest strength lies in its youthful population. He noted that millions of young Africans are already shaping the future through entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and technology-driven businesses.

Ruto said Kenya has continued to position itself as a leading technology hub in Africa through improved internet connectivity, digital infrastructure, and investment in education and innovation. He called on international partners to invest more in African youth and startups, saying the continent has the skills and energy needed to compete globally.

The Kenyan president added that partnerships with countries like France could help accelerate job creation, innovation, and economic growth while opening more opportunities for young people in technology and the creative economy.

The renewed cooperation between France and Kenya is also expected to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Europe and Africa at a time when global powers are competing for influence and investment opportunities across the continent.
