Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reassured Christians of his administration’s commitment to prioritise peace across the state. He gave the assurance on Sunday, January 17, 2026, during a special worship service at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Itu Diocese, Ekid Itam II, Itu Local Government Area.
Governor Eno urged Christians to always pray for peace, stressing that it surpasses politically motivated attempts to create unnecessary chaos and destabilise the state’s peaceful coexistence. He urged residents not to be distracted by individuals hiding behind political lines to create problems, insisting that Akwa Ibom remains united and that the people can see through attempts to cause division. He added that when the time comes, God will speak to the hearts of the people.
The governor explained that his decision to worship outside Uyo was a symbolic sacrifice and a reflection of his obedience to God’s will. He said he regularly chooses churches outside Uyo for worship and noted that he felt compelled to worship at the Methodist Church in Ekid Itam. He commended the presbyter, Rev Dr Nse Akpan, describing him as a cheerful and diligent pastor.
Governor Eno, who became emotional during the service, recalled the support he received from the late Prelate Sunday Mbang and the Methodist Church during his governorship campaigns. He assured worshippers of his determination to remain conscientious in his service to the state.
The pioneer Archbishop of Itu Diocese, Rt Rev. Dr. Friday Jephter, preached on the theme “I Will Fight For You,” drawn from Exodus 14:13-14 and Matthew 6:25. He urged Christians to trust God during tribulation, reminding them that the Lord promises to fight secret battles for those who have faith in Him. He advised believers to avoid relying solely on physical realities and to develop love and sacrificial hearts for others.
In separate remarks, local political stakeholders, including the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kufre Abasi Edidem, Commissioner for Housing Dr Henry Archibong, Itu Council Chairman Hon Ubong Nkutt represented by his Deputy Hon Helen Nta, and former Secretary to the State Government Obonganwan Grace Ekong, thanked the governor for his people-centred administration.
