The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 19 people, including 12 women and seven men, during a raid on a hotel in the Nassarawa GRA area of Kano over allegations of immoral conduct.
The operation was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended at a hotel identified as ICU Hotel, with preliminary investigations indicating that some of those arrested had travelled to Kano from other states.
The Hisbah Board also expressed concern over reports that underage youths were allegedly being given accommodation at the facility, describing the development as troubling.
Dr. Aminuddeen said investigations are ongoing to determine the level of involvement of each suspect before further legal action is taken.
He explained that individuals found guilty of violating the law would be prosecuted in court, while those identified as first-time offenders would undergo counselling.
The board added that parents or guardians of first-time offenders would be invited to take custody of them after the counselling process.
The Kano State Hisbah Board reiterated its commitment to enforcing laws aimed at promoting public morality and ensuring compliance with the state’s social and religious regulations.
