The much-anticipated Pastor Patience Umo Eno Women Development Centre was officially inaugurated at the Local Government Secretariat, Ikot Akpa Nkuk on Wednesday 23rd October. The facility, dedicated to uplifting women in Ukanafun LGA, was opened by Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, who commended the council chairman’s leadership and the centre’s alignment with the ARISE Agenda.
Lady Obareki, who was represented by Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Inibehe Silas, described the naming of the centre after Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno as a tribute to a legacy of compassion, service and advocacy for women’s rights. “My mother founded GIFA (Golden Initiative For All) believing that a society’s strength is measured by the well-being of its women. This centre stands as tangible proof of that vision,” she stated.
Ukanafun’s council chairman, Hon. Prince Uyo Ukpanah, outlined key achievements of his first year in office under the RAHATE Ukanafun Development Blueprint. These include road grading across 13 wards, secretariat renovation, clean water provision, free medical outreaches, and a ₦10 million empowerment programme for entrepreneurs and students. He also announced plans for a new stadium and a modern Traditional Rulers Council building.
During the inauguration, 100 women entrepreneurs from across the 13 wards received financial support and startup kits. Guest dignitaries included Mrs. Enobong Edidem (wife of House Deputy Speaker), Mrs. Esther Udoide (constituency wife), and numerous community and women-group leaders. Lady Obareki lauded the collaboration of development partners, community volunteers and government agencies in realising the project and pledged sustained support for women’s health, welfare and economic inclusion.
