A legal firm, Renaissance Legal Consulting, has formally appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to commence the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the newly restored state constituencies in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated May 15, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Nentawe Yilwatda, the law firm stated that the request followed the recent restoration of five state constituencies in Benue by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the letter signed by Barrister Terhemba Wuaze, one of the party’s members, Hiifan Andrew Abuul, has indicated interest in contesting the 2027 election to represent the newly restored Ukum II State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly.
The firm explained that the release of the nomination and expression of interest forms by the APC leadership would enable its client to participate fully in the party’s primary election process ahead of the polls.
In the correspondence, the solicitors noted that Abuul is a registered member of the ruling party from Azendeshi Ward in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, adding that his membership details were attached to the request.
The letter further stated that the restoration of the constituencies by INEC created a fresh political opportunity for aspiring candidates and residents seeking representation in the affected areas.
Political observers say the development could trigger increased political activities within the APC and other political parties in Benue State as aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
The restoration of constituencies is also expected to reshape political alignments and strengthen grassroots representation in communities that had previously complained of underrepresentation in the state legislature.
Stakeholders believe the creation or restoration of additional constituencies could improve democratic participation, enhance legislative access for rural communities and ensure more balanced representation across the state.
However, attention is now focused on the response of the APC national leadership regarding the request for the release of nomination forms, as party preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle gradually gather momentum.
