Nigerian Rapper weighs in on Politics, says artists must pick sides with Nation’s Future in Mind

Nigerian rapper and cultural commentator Odumodublvck has added his voice to the country’s heated political conversation, urging fellow creatives to be deliberate about the political causes they back and to prioritise national interest over personal gain. Speaking in a recent interview, he argued that artists wield influence that can shape public discourse and should therefore use that platform responsibly.

He said entertainers must weigh the long-term consequences of endorsements, warning that short-term visibility from political alignments can exact reputational costs if the candidates’ records later conflict with public expectations. Odumodublvck framed his remarks around the broader civic responsibility of public figures to model accountability and promote policies that expand opportunities for youth, creatives and small businesses.

The artist also reflected on the role of culture in nation-building, noting that creative industries thrive best in environments of good governance, security and economic stability. He urged policymakers to invest in infrastructure and institutional reforms that will turn cultural production into sustainable industry, not episodic patronage. His comments have reignited debate about whether artists should stay neutral, endorse candidates, or campaign for systemic reforms.
