Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has declared that the internal crisis within the Labour Party has been resolved, stating that the party has emerged stronger following its recent National Convention.
The convention, held on April 28 in Umuahia, produced a new National Working Committee (NWC) led by Nenadi Usman as National Chairman.
Speaking on April 30 at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja during the inaugural meeting of the new NWC, Otti described the party’s most difficult period as over.
“The worst is over. We can’t see anything worse than what we have seen in the past,” he said, adding that the party is now on a path of stability and progress.
The governor, who also serves as the party’s national leader, congratulated members of the newly constituted NWC and urged them to uphold unity, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose. He cautioned against careless handling of sensitive issues, stressing the need for the party to communicate with one voice through appropriate channels.
Otti emphasized that leadership should be rooted in service and stewardship rather than personal ambition, noting that commitment and diligence ultimately define lasting political success. He also commended the National Convention Planning Committee for organizing what he described as a peaceful and rancour-free exercise.
Reaffirming his support, the governor assured the new leadership of the backing of party members nationwide as efforts continue to reposition the party.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Otti disclosed that reconciliation efforts are already underway, with encouraging results. He noted that more than 25 state chairmen from opposing factions attended the convention, with some elected into the new NWC.
“In these disagreements, we declared that there were no vanquished and no winners everyone is a winner. We are keeping our doors open for all, including those who may wish to return,” he said, referencing former party chairman Julius Abure.
He added that the party is focused on reconciliation, reintegration, and strengthening its internal structures ahead of future political engagements, including the 2027 general elections.
Members of the NWC, in their remarks, expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for his role in stabilizing the party during its most challenging period. They commended his leadership and pledged their commitment to advancing the party’s ideals and maintaining its position as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
