Plateau Governor visits attacked communities, pledges tougher action against armed violence

              Governor Caleb Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has visited communities affected by recent gunmen attacks in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, where several residents were killed, others injured, and property destroyed.

The governor toured the affected settlements alongside the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, meeting grieving families and assuring them of stronger government intervention.

The visit followed deadly attacks on Nding and surrounding villages, which have intensified insecurity concerns across the region. Governor Mutfwang later held a town hall meeting with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders, where he pledged renewed efforts to restore peace.

He expressed condolences to families of victims, describing the recent wave of violence as deeply troubling and unacceptable. He also said intelligence reports indicated the presence of armed criminal groups in some communities around Barkin Ladi.

According to him, security forces have been directed to intensify operations aimed at flushing out attackers and restoring stability to affected areas. He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting ongoing security efforts in the state.

The governor warned against political exploitation of the crisis, urging unity among ethnic and religious groups. He called on residents to support security agencies, avoid reprisals, and reject criminal activities such as cattle rustling, illegal mining, and night grazing, which he said contribute to insecurity.

Governor Mutfwang stressed that lasting peace would depend on cooperation between communities, traditional institutions, and security forces, as authorities continue efforts to contain violence in Plateau State.
