The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, theft, and cattle rustling in coordinated intelligence-led operations carried out across different parts of the state between May 22 and May 29, 2026.
Police also recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, motorcycles, and stolen livestock during the operations, which were conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and reduce violent crime across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, detectives from the State Intelligence Department arrested three suspected armed robbers allegedly connected to a series of attacks in parts of the Hadejia Emirate. The suspects include individuals identified as Musa, known as “Kala,” alongside two others from Malam Madori and Kaugama Local Government Areas.
During a search operation, police recovered a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle from one of the suspects’ residences, which investigators believe was used in several criminal operations.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang still at large.
In a separate operation, police foiled a suspected kidnapping plot and arrested two men accused of planning to abduct residents in neighbouring Bauchi State. Security officials say the suspects were intercepted before the attack could be carried out, and they are currently assisting investigators with information to dismantle the wider network.
In Gwaram Local Government Area, two suspected sheep thieves were arrested after allegedly stealing livestock, while additional arrests were made in Taura Local Government Area involving suspected cattle rustlers. Several stolen animals were recovered during these operations.
Police also dismantled an armed robbery gang operating along the Ringim–Chaichai road, where suspects had allegedly mounted illegal roadblocks to target motorists. Additional arrests were made following follow-up intelligence operations.
The Command further recovered two stolen Boxer motorcycles in separate incidents, one of which was abandoned by suspects who fled on sighting security operatives.
Commissioner of Police Haruna A. Yahaya commended officers and community collaborators involved in the operations, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activity across Jigawa State. He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
The police say investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend remaining suspects and dismantle criminal networks operating within and outside the state.
