Police Launch Full Investigation After Live Ammunition Parcel Delivered to First Bank MD’s Residence

The Lagos State Police Command has intensified investigations into a disturbing security incident involving the delivery of a suspicious package containing live ammunition to the residence of the Managing Director of First Bank in Lagos.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed that the incident was formally reported to the police on May 7, 2026, after the bank executive discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside a parcel that had been delivered to his residence.

According to the police commissioner, the package was initially received by the managing director’s security guard before it was subsequently handed over to the bank chief. Upon opening the parcel, the executive reportedly discovered the ammunition and immediately alerted security authorities, prompting an investigation by the police.

Speaking during a media briefing, Fatai described the development as a matter of serious concern and assured that the command was deploying both conventional and intelligence-driven investigative methods to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He said detectives have commenced extensive inquiries aimed at tracing the origin of the parcel, identifying those responsible for sending it and establishing whether the delivery was intended as an act of intimidation, a warning or part of a broader criminal plot.

“The Managing Director reported the matter after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel that had been collected on his behalf. We are treating the case with the seriousness it deserves, and investigations are ongoing,” the police commissioner said.

According to him, no arrests have been made so far. However, investigators are pursuing several leads and examining information supplied by the complainant, including details relating to certain individuals who may possess relevant knowledge or have possible links to the incident.

Police authorities said forensic analysis and intelligence-gathering operations are being carried out to uncover the identities of those behind the parcel delivery and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

Security experts note that the delivery of ammunition to a high-profile individual could be interpreted in several ways, including an attempt at intimidation, a threat or a deliberate act intended to create fear. They say such incidents require careful and thorough investigations to establish motive and prevent potential escalation.

The calibre of ammunition discovered—7.62mm rounds—is commonly associated with assault rifles and military-grade firearms, making the incident particularly sensitive from a security standpoint. Analysts say determining how the ammunition was packaged, transported and delivered could provide vital clues to investigators.

The case has also raised fresh concerns about the security of senior corporate executives and other high-profile individuals, especially in major commercial centres like Lagos.

Experts have called for increased vigilance among private security personnel and courier service operators to prevent suspicious items from reaching intended recipients unchecked.

Authorities are expected to review available surveillance footage, courier records and communication trails as part of ongoing efforts to trace the source of the parcel.

Investigators may also rely on forensic evidence such as fingerprints, DNA samples and packaging materials to establish the chain of custody and identify possible suspects.

While the motive behind the delivery remains unclear, the Lagos State Police Command has reassured the public that all available resources are being deployed to unravel the mystery and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.

The command further emphasized its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious packages, threats or unusual activities to security agencies to enhance public safety and prevent potential criminal acts.
