Presidency Backs Nigeria’s Hosting of Global Public Relations Forum in Abuja

The Presidency has pledged its support for Nigeria’s hosting of the Global Alliance World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 15 to 21, 2026.

The international conference, themed “Deepening Responsible Communications,” is expected to attract about 3,000 delegates from 126 countries, providing Nigeria with an opportunity to showcase its culture and strengthen its global image.

Presidency Promises Support

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, gave the assurance when he received members of the WPRF Abuja 2026 Planning Committee at the State House.

The delegation was led by the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku.

Onanuga welcomed the decision to hold the global event in Nigeria and urged citizens to take advantage of the occasion to present a positive image of the country to international visitors.

He expressed concern over what he described as negative portrayals of Nigeria online, saying the conference could provide an opportunity to address misconceptions about the country.

Nigeria’s First African Host

Neliaku said Nigeria would become the first African country to host the World Public Relations Forum.

He noted that countries including Mexico, India and Germany had previously hosted the international gathering.

The NIPR president said the event would also highlight Nigeria’s cultural heritage and produce an agreement known as the “Abuja Declaration.”

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to deliver a keynote address, while President Tinubu is scheduled to receive a Lifetime Award of Excellence in Reforms during the event.

Preparations Underway

Chairman of the planning committee, Dr. Suleiman Haruna, said preparations for the conference were progressing, with the committee working alongside media organisations and security agencies to ensure a successful event.

Another committee member, Yakubu Lamai, said Nasarawa State was also working to strengthen Nigeria’s public relations sector by developing a world-class Public Relations University.

Broadcaster Moji Makanjuola, who represented women on the delegation, stressed that the conference would be inclusive, with women and persons with disabilities expected to participate fully.

She appealed for broad national support, describing the event as an opportunity for Nigerians to welcome visitors from around the world.

With thousands of international delegates expected in Abuja, organisers say the forum will not only focus on public relations but also provide Nigeria with a major platform to promote its culture, communications industry and international image.
