Tuggar stepped down after complying with a presidential directive requiring all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31. His exit paved the way for Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s elevation from her previous role as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
In a related development, President Tinubu nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate. Prior to his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
Described as a seasoned diplomat with over three decades of service, Enikanolaiye has held several key positions within Nigeria’s foreign service, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and charged them to advance Nigeria’s national interests, strengthen economic diplomacy, promote regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
