Religious Council warns against Politicising insecurity, urges Tinubu to appoint Ambassadors

The National Council for Spiritual and Cultural Harmony in Nigeria (NCSCN) has cautioned both local and international actors against politicising insecurity or framing the nation’s crisis as religious persecution.

In a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting in Abuja, the Council, comprising representatives of Christian, Muslim, and traditional faiths, described the claims of “targeted Christian genocide” as misleading and unsupported by verified data.

“Available records show that Muslim communities are equally, if not more, affected by terrorist attacks,” the communiqué stated.

Signed by Mazi Oscar David Kalu, Chairman of the Drafting Committee, the Council criticised politicians for exploiting insecurity for political gain and warned that such narratives could deepen sectarian divisions.

It also expressed concern over Nigeria’s prolonged lack of ambassadors in key countries, including the United States, following their recall shortly after Tinubu’s inauguration.

“Nigeria’s diplomatic inactivity has left her vulnerable to propaganda and weakened her ability to defend her image abroad,” the Council said.

The group urged President Tinubu to send ambassadorial nominations to the Senate before the end of November and to establish a national framework for international lobbying.
