Dr. Terris Damsa has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 House of Representatives election in the Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo (Sankera) Federal Constituency.
His emergence followed a delegate election held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the PDP State Secretariat in Makurdi. The exercise became necessary after stakeholders and aspirants from Katsina-Ala and Logo Local Government Areas were unable to reach a unified agreement after extensive deliberations.
Earlier, at a stakeholders’ meeting on April 28, it was agreed that Katsina-Ala would present one aspirant, while Logo would present three candidates two from Ugondo (Yatiev and Tswarev) and one from Gaambe-Tiev to advance the consensus process.
At the resumed meeting, Gaambe-Tiev presented Dr. Damsa as its sole candidate, while Katsina-Ala produced Hon. Desmond Tikaa. However, Ugondo failed to harmonize its four aspirants, prompting the need for a delegate vote.
A total of 87 delegates were accredited, with 73 votes cast. Dr. Damsa secured a decisive victory with 53 votes, defeating Hon. Tikaa, who garnered 17 votes, while Dr. Kester Kyenge received 2 votes. One ballot was declared invalid.
PDP leaders in the zone, including Ambassador Chive Kaave and Zonal Chairman Hon.
Abraham Waroh, commended the peaceful conduct of the election and called on all aspirants to rally behind the party’s candidate to ensure victory in the general election.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Damsa lauded the transparency of the process and dedicated his victory to God and the people of Sankera.
He pledged not to betray the trust placed in him and urged his co-aspirants to unite in advancing the party’s chances, describing his emergence as a collective achievement. He also emphasized that the journey toward the 2027 elections has only just begun.
