Veritas University, Abuja, is set to construct a multi-million-naira ultra-modern sports complex for its host community of Zuma and surrounding settlements as part of its efforts to support youth development.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, disclosed the plan while receiving Hon. Caleb Danladi, Councillor representing Bwari Central Ward in the Bwari Area Council.
According to Ichoku, the proposed facility is designed to provide young people in the community with opportunities to develop their sporting talents while keeping them productively engaged.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university was concerned about the potential of young people in its host communities and wanted to contribute to their development through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“We have many talented young men and women in our host community and the adjoining areas whom we want to support,” Ichoku said.
He explained that the proposed sports complex would serve not only Zuma but also neighbouring settlements.
Ichoku appealed to the councillor to work with community leaders to identify and secure suitable land for the project, which he described as a potential legacy initiative for the area.
Councillor Promises Support
Danladi said his visit was aimed at building a stronger relationship with the university’s management and identifying areas where the institution and local government could collaborate for community development.
He commended Veritas University for providing employment opportunities for residents of the host community and pledged to engage community leaders and other stakeholders to secure land for the proposed sports facility.
The project, when completed, is expected to provide young people in Zuma and neighbouring communities with improved access to sporting facilities while creating a platform for discovering and nurturing local athletic talent.
