Zulum Imposes Eid Movement Restriction In Borno

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved a temporary restriction on movement across Borno State during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations as part of heightened security measures aimed at preventing possible attacks.

The restriction, announced by the state government, will take effect from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday and will apply to all vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles across the state.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, the directive is intended to ensure the peaceful conduct of Eid prayers and enhance public safety during the festive period.

Residents have been advised to attend Eid grounds closest to their homes to ease movement, improve identification processes, and support security monitoring during the celebrations.

The development comes shortly after the Nigerian military issued a security advisory warning of possible terrorist attacks in crowded locations within the state, raising concerns about public gatherings during the holiday.

The state government, however, clarified that ambulances, security agencies, fire service personnel, and other emergency and essential workers with valid identification would be exempted from the restriction.

Authorities also urged residents across Borno’s 27 local government areas to cooperate fully with security operatives and comply with all safety directives aimed at protecting lives and property.

Parents and guardians were equally advised to caution their children and wards against any behaviour capable of disrupting public peace or creating panic during the celebrations.

Governor Zulum further called on residents to use the Eid period to pray for lasting peace, stability, and continued recovery in Borno State and across Nigeria, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, reconstruction, and the resettlement of displaced communities affected by insurgency.
