2027: Security Expert Urges Politicians To Reject Violence, Embrace Issue-Based Campaigns

A security expert in Katsina State, Ibrahim Katsina, has urged politicians and their supporters to embrace peaceful campaigns and avoid actions that could heighten tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Katsina, a former Special Adviser on Security Matters to former Governor Aminu Masari, made the call in an interview with Channels Television in Katsina.

He urged political parties and their candidates to focus on their manifestos and present their policies to voters instead of resorting to violence, intimidation or hate speech.

“As the 2027 electioneering campaign draws closer, my advice to politicians is that they play according to the rules of the game in order not to overheat the polity,” he said.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to sanction politicians who incite violence or engage in activities capable of threatening public peace.

Security Gains In Katsina

The security expert also commended what he described as improvements in the security situation across Katsina State.

According to him, closer collaboration between the government and security agencies, alongside improved understanding of emerging criminal trends, has contributed to the progress recorded.

Katsina expressed optimism that ongoing security operations would further reduce criminal activities before the 2027 elections.

He, however, stressed that maintaining security requires the participation of citizens, government authorities and security agencies.

“Security is everybody’s business. When we unite against terror, we will succeed.”

Warning Against Glorifying Criminals Online

Katsina also warned Nigerians against glorifying criminal activities and criminals on social media.

He said such narratives could encourage criminal elements, weaken public confidence in security institutions and make it more difficult to combat insecurity.

Instead, he urged Nigerians to support legitimate efforts by security agencies and highlight their successes.

The security expert expressed confidence that the remaining security challenges could be overcome through sustained cooperation between citizens, government and security agencies.
