Bandits Abduct Six Federal Polytechnic Students in Zamfara, Security Forces Launch Rescue Operation

Suspected bandits have abducted six students of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, in Zamfara State after attacking their off-campus residence in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town. The victims were reportedly taken during a late-night raid, sparking fresh concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the state.

The Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the incident and said security agencies had immediately launched coordinated rescue operations to secure the students’ release. According to authorities, seven students were initially kidnapped, but one managed to escape, leaving three male and three female students still in captivity.

The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the abduction. Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that members of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, working alongside troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, are actively pursuing the kidnappers and conducting search-and-rescue missions in the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers gained access to the students’ residence after a door was reportedly left open during the night. Security officials emphasized that the polytechnic campus itself remains heavily protected and was not breached by the assailants.

Meanwhile, residents and community groups have expressed growing frustration over recurring kidnappings in Kaura Namoda and surrounding communities. A civil society group, Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda, described the latest incident as part of a disturbing pattern of attacks linked to armed criminal gangs operating in the region. The group called for stronger military action and intensified surveillance of known bandit hideouts.

The abduction adds to the security challenges facing Zamfara State, where bandit attacks, kidnappings, and violent raids have continued to threaten lives, disrupt education, and force many residents to live in fear. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to rescue the students safely and bring the perpetrators to justice.
