Police Raid Anambra Drug Hideout, Arrest Two Suspects With ₦6.2m Worth of Drugs

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered illicit substances estimated at ₦6.2 million during an intelligence-led operation in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Police operatives also recovered ₦598,400 in cash during the raid, which was carried out by personnel attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Awka on Tuesday.

According to Ikenga, the operation followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for security agencies to intensify intelligence-driven operations targeting criminal networks across the country.

Two suspects arrested

Ikenga said operatives stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi after receiving credible intelligence about the activities of alleged drug dealers operating in the area.

Two men were arrested during the operation and identified as Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as Onyeoma, 47, and Ugochukwu Azia, 20.

A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs.

Police estimated the value of the recovered substances at approximately ₦6.2 million.

Ikenga said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.

Police say hideout linked to criminal activities

The police spokesman added that investigators believe the location served as a meeting point for suspected criminals after carrying out illegal activities.

Some suspects reportedly fled the area when they noticed the approaching police operatives.

The two arrested men remain in police custody while investigators work to determine the source of the suspected drugs, trace their distribution network and establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered cash.

Police are also searching for other individuals allegedly connected to the operation.

Police promise more raids

The state Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led raids and targeted operations aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts across Anambra.

He urged residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide timely information about suspicious activities and locations believed to be used by criminals.

Ama stressed that cooperation from residents remains crucial to the police effort to strengthen security and curb criminal activities across the state.
