Kano Bridge Scandal: Two Men Remanded Over Alleged Vandalism and Theft

Two men have been remanded in custody after appearing before a Kano Magistrate’s Court over the alleged demolition of part of a bridge and theft of construction materials in Danjirima, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The suspects, Danlami Sulaiman, popularly known as Layayu, and Abdullahi Ibrahim, also known as Maraki, were arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS).

What the DSS alleges

The prosecution accused the two men of conspiracy, theft, trespass and unlawful entry.

According to the allegations, the suspects visited the bridge on July 22, where they allegedly pulled down part of the structure and removed rods and other materials.

They were also accused of unlawfully entering and encroaching on plots of land around the bridge.

Suspects plead not guilty

The charges were read to the defendants by court registrar Anas Zage.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Following their pleas, Magistrate Abba Maiwada Abubakar ordered that they be remanded in custody.

The court adjourned the matter until September 8, 2026, for further proceedings.

The allegations against the defendants have not been proven in court, and they remain presumed innocent unless convicted.
