The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have jointly issued a fresh ultimatum to the Federal Government, threatening a nationwide shutdown of tertiary institutions if long-standing issues are not resolved immediately.
The unions, in a joint communiqué released after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, accused the government of insincerity in implementing agreements reached during previous negotiations.
Their grievances include unpaid earned allowances, withheld salaries during previous strikes, inadequate funding for universities, and the government’s failure to review the university workers’ wage structure.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said the unions have run out of patience, warning that “if government continues to ignore our demands, we will have no option but to shut down the universities completely.”
NASU and SSANU leaders also reiterated their dissatisfaction with the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), calling for full autonomy of universities and prompt action to end the crisis.
The unions said they would announce further actions after the expiration of the new ultimatum.
