Atiku Wins ADC Presidential Primary In Kano

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election in Kano State, recording a decisive victory over other aspirants in the state-wide exercise.

The result was announced by the chairman of the electoral committee, Dr. John Ayuba, who said the primaries were conducted across all 44 local government areas and the 484 wards in the state.

According to the official figures released by the committee, Atiku secured 155,595 votes to defeat businessman and presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who polled 15,914 votes, while former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi received 9,994 votes.

Dr. Ayuba explained that the results from Kano would be forwarded to the party’s National Coalition Centre in Abuja for final ratification and the official declaration of the party’s presidential flag bearer.

He commended party members for what he described as a peaceful and orderly exercise and urged stakeholders to remain united as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The outcome represents a significant boost for Atiku’s campaign, especially considering Kano’s status as one of Nigeria’s most politically influential states with a large voting population.

Political observers say the strong showing by Atiku in Kano could strengthen his position within the ADC ahead of the final phase of the presidential primary process, particularly as competition intensifies among leading aspirants seeking the party’s ticket.

Meanwhile, the party has suspended the announcement of the governorship primary results in Kano pending further consultations by the national leadership.

The governorship contest is reportedly between Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and Malam Ibrahim Khalil, with party officials considering a consensus arrangement to determine the eventual candidate.

The ADC primaries continue to attract national attention as political parties intensify preparations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
