The Bauchi State House of Assembly has witnessed a leadership change after its Majority Leader, Saleh Hodi Jibri, resigned to pursue his ambition of becoming chairman of Shira Local Government Council.
Jibri, who represents Disina Constituency, announced his resignation during Wednesday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Abubakar Y. Suleiman.
Why Jibri stepped down
The former Majority Leader is the Allied Progressive Movement (APM) candidate for the Shira Local Government chairmanship election.
In his farewell speech, Jibri thanked political stakeholders in Shira for selecting him as their candidate and expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed, the Speaker and his colleagues for their support during his tenure.
Speaker Suleiman said Jibri’s resignation followed the APM’s decision to nominate him for the upcoming local government election.
He described the outgoing leader as a close colleague and friend, noting that they had worked together since the Ninth Assembly.
Yana takes over as Majority Leader
Following Jibri’s resignation, the APM nominated Hon. Auwal Hassan Yana, representing Shira Constituency, as the new Majority Leader.
The Assembly subsequently approved the resignation and confirmed Yana as Jibri’s successor.
In his acceptance speech, Yana thanked the party, Governor Bala Mohammed and other stakeholders for their confidence.
He promised to build on the leadership qualities of his predecessor and appealed to lawmakers for their guidance, constructive criticism and cooperation as he assumes the new role.
