Defence Minister Calls for Unity, Intelligence Sharing to Tackle Insecurity at SKFEST 2026

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has called for stronger unity among Nigerians and greater community support for security agencies in the fight against insecurity across the country.

He made the appeal at the third edition of the Southern Kaduna Festival (SKFEST 2026), held at the Kafanchan Township Stadium under the theme “Embracing Diversity, Building Bridges.” The cultural event attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders from across Southern Kaduna and other parts of the country.

Musa urged citizens to provide timely and credible intelligence to security operatives, stressing that effective security operations depend heavily on public cooperation. He said community participation remains essential in identifying and neutralising criminal elements operating in rural and urban areas.

According to him, “Security agencies need credible information from citizens to identify and neutralise criminal elements threatening our communities,” adding that ongoing operations across affected regions will be sustained to restore peace and stability.

The Defence Minister also reassured families of kidnapped victims that government efforts to rescue abductees remain active and coordinated, promising continued military and intelligence operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks.

He further encouraged young people to focus on education, entrepreneurship, technology, and skills development, while warning against violence, extremism, and drug abuse, which he said worsen insecurity and limit national progress.

At the event, he was honoured with the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander (SKGC) Award in recognition of his contributions to national security and peace-building efforts.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Elders Forum, Darey Akau, called for the strengthening of traditional institutions, arguing that empowering traditional rulers would improve grassroots security, conflict resolution, and community development.

The SKFEST 2026 celebration featured cultural performances, traditional wrestling, archery displays, food competitions, and sports activities, reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.
