Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition along the Abuja–Kaduna highway in Kaduna State, in one of several coordinated operations targeting illegal arms and drug trafficking across the country.
The ammunition was reportedly recovered during a patrol at Jere on May 24, 2026, from a 30-year-old suspect identified as Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting the consignment to Katsina State. NDLEA officials say the seized items included 7.62mm military-grade bullets, commonly used in assault rifles. The suspect and exhibits have since been handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation.
Authorities say the interception is part of intensified efforts to curb the spread of illegal arms, which continue to fuel insecurity in several parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North-West and North-Central regions.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, following the discovery of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing over 1,200 kilograms. The drugs were recovered in the Gonin Gora area during an intelligence-led raid.
Elsewhere, in Lagos State, NDLEA officers uncovered illicit substances concealed inside water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands. The shipment contained ketamine and MDMA tablets, also known as ecstasy, which were discovered at a courier facility during routine inspection.
In Niger State, a warehouse raid in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, led to the recovery of hundreds of kilograms of skunk, with one suspect arrested in connection with the storage and distribution network.
Similarly, in Enugu State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle along the Onitsha–Enugu expressway, recovering large quantities of tramadol, pentazocine injections, and bromazepam tablets. One suspect was taken into custody during the operation.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the operatives for their sustained efforts, urging them to maintain pressure on drug cartels and criminal networks fueling insecurity and substance abuse across the country.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling trafficking syndicates operating within and outside Nigeria through continuous intelligence-led operations.
