The Delta State Government has unveiled a $100 million (approximately ₦133.8 billion) investment support fund aimed at attracting private investors while reducing financial risks for new business projects across the state.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced the initiative during the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 held in Asaba, describing it as a major step toward boosting economic growth and expanding private sector participation.
According to the governor, the state has also designated more than 12,000 hectares of farmland for agricultural development, creating opportunities for investors interested in commercial farming and agro-processing.
He explained that the government’s agro-industrialisation agenda offers investment opportunities across key agricultural value chains, including cassava, oil palm, rice, potatoes, and other cash crops.
Governor Oborevwori added that Delta’s extensive coastline also presents significant potential for developing a thriving marine economy and other blue economy investments.
To encourage investor confidence, the governor assured participants that the state has made substantial progress in improving security, creating a safer environment for businesses to thrive.
He noted that investments in the security sector have strengthened collaboration between security agencies and local communities while improving protection for economic activities across the state.
Oborevwori also highlighted that Delta State was recognized by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources as Nigeria’s safest state for oil and gas investment in 2024, describing the recognition as evidence of the state’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment.
Speaking on the newly announced investment fund, the governor emphasized that the $100 million viability gap funding is already available and will not be financed through borrowing.
According to him, the fund is intended to reduce investment risks, accelerate project execution, and demonstrate the government’s commitment to implementing agreements reached during the investment summit.
He said the initiative reflects the administration’s determination to attract sustainable investments, promote industrial development, create jobs, and position Delta State as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations.
