The Edo State Government has threatened strict enforcement of the Edo State Anti-Property Encroachment Law, following the recovery of over 500 illegally occupied properties across the state.
The warning came after the state’s Task Force on Property Protection concluded a three-month verification and reclamation exercise, which uncovered multiple cases of illegal allocations and fraudulent land sales involving both private individuals and organizations.
A statement from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development said the government is determined to ensure full implementation of the new law, adding that offenders would be prosecuted without bias.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed that his administration will not tolerate the unlawful sale or development of public property, stressing that the reclaimed assets will be redirected for community infrastructure, housing, and industrial projects.
He also cautioned traditional institutions, community leaders, and real estate developers to comply strictly with existing land use regulations.
