Grief and sorrow have enveloped Gwon-Ajang village in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, as eight victims of Sunday’s deadly attack were laid to rest amid heavy tears and emotional tributes. The burial ceremony, held on Monday evening, drew family members, community leaders, religious figures, and sympathisers who gathered to mourn those killed in the violent incident.
The attack, which also left more than 15 people injured, has deepened fears over worsening insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where rural communities continue to face repeated assaults.
During the funeral, former House of Representatives member for Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Gyendeng, expressed frustration over the recurring violence, lamenting what he described as persistent and unprovoked attacks on peaceful communities. He called on authorities to take urgent action to stop the killings and ensure justice for victims.
Similarly, Hon. Ishaya David Lalu, who represents Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, stressing that citizens should not be forced to live in constant fear. He urged security agencies to strengthen protection in vulnerable areas and bring perpetrators to justice.
Community leaders also voiced concern over the fragile security situation, warning that many rural settlements remain exposed due to limited security presence. The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, noted that residents often rely on under-equipped local vigilante groups to defend themselves against armed attackers.
Authorities have been urged to intensify security operations and restore confidence among residents as calls grow for lasting peace in the troubled region.
