Authority says discussions with e-hailing operators are ongoing to establish a framework for safe airport pick-ups
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that it has not imposed a blanket ban on e-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt at Nigerian airports.
The clarification follows recent reports and concerns among passengers over restrictions affecting e-hailing pick-ups at some airports.
FAAN, in a statement issued on Thursday, said its position was not intended to limit passengers’ transportation choices or undermine the convenience provided by e-hailing platforms.
Why FAAN Is Reviewing E-Hailing Operations
The airport authority explained that airports are highly regulated environments, requiring commercial transport operators to operate under clear frameworks that allow FAAN to monitor vehicles, drivers and activities within airport premises.
According to FAAN, the arrangements are necessary to improve security, accountability and coordination, particularly when incidents involving passengers or transport operators occur.
The authority also cited complaints and operational challenges involving commercial transportation around airports, including passenger solicitation and touting.
FAAN said it is therefore working with e-hailing companies to develop a system that allows them to continue serving passengers while meeting airport safety and security requirements.
ACHRAMS Is Not An Alternative To Uber Or Bolt
FAAN also addressed concerns surrounding its Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS).
The authority said ACHRAMS is not an e-hailing application and was not created to compete with Uber, Bolt or similar platforms.
Instead, FAAN said the system was designed to provide operational visibility and tracking for airport transportation, while helping manage applicable concessions and airport-related charges.
The authority said the system is intended to modernise ground transportation and improve coordination, passenger safety and security.
Discussions With Uber, Bolt Ongoing
FAAN said it is currently holding discussions with Uber, Bolt and other relevant operators to resolve outstanding issues, particularly around passenger safety, accountability, operational visibility and the management of pick-up points.
The authority acknowledged that passengers could experience some inconvenience while the arrangements are being finalised but expressed confidence that an agreement would be reached soon.
FAAN stressed that passenger protection remains its priority, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring travellers continue to have access to safe and convenient transportation options at Nigerian airports.
The latest clarification comes after reports that Uber and Bolt had faced restrictions on airport pick-ups pending the conclusion of formal arrangements with FAAN.
