Fear in Ondo as Gunmen Abduct Two Farmers, Demand ₦10 Million Ransom has gripped residents of Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State after suspected gunmen abducted two farmers and reportedly demanded a ₦10 million ransom for their release.
The victims were kidnapped on Saturday along the Oke-Ifira/Idogun forest corridor, according to a family member who disclosed the incident.
The relative said the abduction was immediately reported to the Ondo State Police Command and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun. The family also claimed the kidnappers later contacted them with a demand for ₦10 million before releasing the victims.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the police had received a report that the two farmers were missing. However, he clarified that the command had not verified the reported ransom demand.
Jimoh said security agencies had launched a coordinated search operation involving personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, local hunters, Agbekoya operatives, and community volunteers to locate the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He added that both operational and intelligence assets had been deployed to strengthen the rescue effort and track down those responsible for the abduction.
The police spokesperson also appealed to members of the public to share any credible information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the victims, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to secure their safe return.
The latest kidnapping has heightened concerns over security in parts of Ondo State, where attacks on farmers and travelers have continued to pose serious challenges to local communities.
