The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, says the Service has overcome the operational challenges of inadequate water and fuel supply, improving its ability to respond to emergencies across the country.
Adeyemi made the remarks on Tuesday during the unveiling of quarter guards at the Federal Fire Service headquarters and the Wuse Area Command in Abuja.
“Public trust is our legacy”
The Controller-General said that when he assumed office about a year ago, he made it a priority to rebuild public confidence in the Service’s ability to protect lives and property.
“I want Nigerians to have trust in the Federal Fire Service in terms of saving lives and property,” he said, adding that restoring that confidence remains one of his key goals.
Officer praised for rescue effort
Adeyemi cited the recent actions of a fire officer in Plateau State who reportedly entered a diesel tank to rescue a trapped individual.
According to him, the officer risked his own life during the operation, was later hospitalised, but successfully saved the victim.
He said such acts demonstrate the commitment of personnel to their duties.
Operational challenges addressed
The Fire Service boss stated that the agency has moved beyond the era when emergency responses were delayed due to a lack of water or diesel.
He said resolving those logistical challenges has strengthened the Service’s emergency response capability.
Focus on staff welfare
Adeyemi also described the newly unveiled quarter guards as symbols of discipline, professionalism and unity within the Service.
He commended officers who contributed funds for the projects, saying their support reflected the improved working environment under his administration.
According to him, staff welfare has been strengthened through better welfare packages, improved medical support and easier access to loan facilities, measures aimed at boosting morale and enhancing service delivery.
