Students of Federal Government College (FGC), Kaduna, have been warned that bullying could cost them their place in school, with management and the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) adopting tougher measures to tackle the menace.
The PTA Chairman, Ibrahim Abdul, issued the warning during the school’s 29th Speech and Prize-Giving Day, where he disclosed that the college had embraced a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying.
Abdul, an alumnus of the college, said the PTA, parents and school management were working together to protect students and maintain discipline.
He attributed the reported decline in bullying cases to regular monitoring and strict disciplinary measures.
‘Caught bullying? Expect indefinite suspension’
Abdul said students caught bullying others would face severe sanctions, including indefinite suspension.
He warned that suspended students would miss important school activities and urged them to stay away from bullying if they wanted to enjoy the full benefits of being students of the institution.
According to him, PTA members also conduct unannounced visits to the school at different times, including evenings, nights and early mornings, to monitor activities and students’ welfare.
Abdul urged PTAs in other schools across the country to become more involved in school affairs and establish stronger working relationships with school authorities.
He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among parents, teachers and school management could eventually make bullying a thing of the past.
FGC Kaduna celebrates top-performing students
Meanwhile, the school used the prize-giving ceremony to celebrate students who distinguished themselves academically and in character.
Principal Kofi Akpan said the institution remained committed to producing academically excellent students who also demonstrate discipline, resilience and good character.
The Global President of the Federal Government College Kaduna Old Students Association (FGCKADOSA), Fatima Ambashair Kyari, praised alumni members for sponsoring the prizes presented during the ceremony.
She said the initiative was aimed at rewarding hard work and motivating students to pursue excellence while upholding integrity and discipline.
The best graduating students were also honoured with cash gifts in recognition of their outstanding academic performances.
