Fire Guts Kogi LG Chairman’s Residence, Family Escapes Unharmed

A private residence belonging to the Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area in Kogi State, Adamu Yahaya, has been severely damaged by a fire outbreak that destroyed valuable property but left all occupants safe.

The incident reportedly occurred around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, while the chairman and members of his family were inside the house.

Although the cause of the fire has not been determined, residents described the outbreak as sudden, saying the blaze spread quickly before help arrived.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Idris Mohammed Omale, said the family escaped without injuries despite the extent of the destruction.

According to him, while the fire consumed valuable belongings, the family remains grateful that no lives were lost.

Omale also praised residents, neighbours and other well-wishers who rushed to the scene and helped prevent the flames from spreading to nearby houses.

He expressed appreciation to members of the Ankpa community for their swift response, solidarity and support during the emergency, describing their efforts as invaluable.

Eyewitnesses said thick smoke and cries for help alerted residents, many of whom joined in efforts to contain the fire before it could cause further damage.

One resident, Yusuf Obaje, said although the inferno destroyed a significant amount of property, everyone was relieved that the chairman and his family escaped safely.

Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire, while further assessments of the damage are expected.
