Abuja-Nigeria -For many women, motherhood is one of life’s greatest blessings. Yet, behind the smiles, school runs, and daily responsibilities, countless mothers quietly struggle with a question they rarely ask out loud: Who am I beyond being a mother?
It is this question that inspired Amb. Oluebube Evelyn Umeh to establish Mothers Unscripted, a growing platform dedicated to helping mothers rediscover their identity, purpose, and dreams.
As the Founder and Lead Catalyst of Mothers Unscripted, Umeh understands the journey firsthand. A wife, mother, and entrepreneur, she intentionally put her personal ambitions on hold to prioritize raising her children.
Rather than expanding her fashion business, she made the deliberate decision to relocate it to her home so she could remain present during her children’s formative years.
“I believed I could always build my career later, but I would never get those early years of motherhood back,” she said.
While she has no regrets about choosing family first, Umeh admits that the decision came with unexpected emotional challenges.
As the years passed, she found herself struggling with questions about her identity and future. Her business slowed, life became increasingly uncertain, and she began wondering where she fit into the life she had so carefully built around everyone else.
Those questions eventually led to one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Behind closed doors, Umeh quietly battled depression—a struggle that many people around her never noticed.
“There were days I cried, questioned everything, and wondered what my future would look like,” she recalled.
Instead of allowing the difficult season to define her, she began searching for meaning within her pain.
“My season of depression became my season of expression,” she explained.
That personal transformation became the foundation for what is now known as Mothers Unscripted.
According to Umeh, one question repeatedly came to mind during her recovery:
“If I feel this way, how many other mothers are silently carrying the same burden?”
The answer, she realized, was likely thousands.
She discovered that many mothers silently grieve dreams placed on hold, carry guilt they rarely discuss, battle emotional exhaustion, and struggle to rediscover themselves while continuing to care for their families.
Despite these realities, she found very few spaces where mothers could openly share their experiences without fear of judgment.
That realization gave birth to Mothers Unscripted.
More than an event or support initiative, the platform has grown into a community where mothers are encouraged to have honest conversations, build meaningful relationships, find healing, and embrace the reality that motherhood should not require sacrificing one’s identity.
Through the initiative, Umeh hopes to remind women that becoming a mother does not mean the end of their personal aspirations or purpose.
She believes every mother deserves a safe environment where she is seen, heard, valued, and celebrated—not because she has everything figured out, but because her journey matters.
Today, her message to mothers remains both simple and powerful:
“Motherhood is not the end of your story. Your dreams are still valid. Your voice still matters. Your purpose is still alive.
“No matter how long you’ve paused, you are still becoming.”
As conversations around maternal mental health, identity, and emotional well-being continue to gain global attention, Mothers Unscripted is emerging as a timely movement—one that seeks to give mothers permission to be honest, heal, grow, and rediscover the woman behind the title of “Mom.”
The second edition of Mothers Unscripted will be holding it 2nd annual conference on the 9th of August 2026 and you are invited.
