The Edo State Government has reiterated its firm commitment to implementing the new anti-property-encroachment legislation, following the recovery of approximately 500 state-owned properties that had been improperly occupied or mismanaged. Authorities warned that the law will be applied uniformly, stressing that no individual or entity is exempt from compliance.
State officials outlined that the recovered properties include both residential and commercial buildings, previously under illegal occupation or unauthorized use, which have now been restored to government oversight. The move is intended to safeguard public assets, ensure fair access to state resources, and prevent illegal land speculation.
The government further indicated that compliance enforcement will involve regular audits, strengthened coordination among security and land management agencies, and active monitoring of state properties to prevent future encroachments. Officials noted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy under Governor Okpebholo’s Renewed Hope agenda to enhance governance, transparency, and public accountability in land administration.
