Three members of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (Kadvis) have been killed by suspected armed robbers along the Zuntu-Zaria Road in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred at about 12:20am on Monday, when the vigilantes were conducting stop-and-search operations along the highway.
According to residents, the officials had mounted a checkpoint when a red Gulf vehicle approached at high speed and allegedly refused to stop.
The vigilantes reportedly pursued the vehicle in their patrol car. During the chase, the driver, identified as Mamiyo, who was also the deputy commander of Kadvis in Kubau LGA, was shot.
A resident, Ibrahim Zuntu, said the bullet reportedly passed through Mamiyo’s ear.
He said the occupants of the vehicle were suspected to be armed robbers and that an exchange of gunfire occurred between them and the vigilantes.
According to him, after Mamiyo was shot, the attackers opened fire on another Kadvis member inside the patrol vehicle before returning to the checkpoint.
“They returned to the checkpoint and met the other official who was left behind at the checkpoint and shot him too,” the resident said.
Another resident, Ali Zuntu, described the incident as devastating, saying the killings had left the community in shock.
Two Residents Killed in Separate Kaduna Attack
Meanwhile, two residents were reportedly killed when suspected bandits attacked Maro village in Kajuru Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday.
The attackers also reportedly abducted three women and three children during the raid.
A resident, Ruben Maro, said the community remained awake throughout the night as residents attempted to confront the attackers.
He identified the two victims as Yonana Augustine and Ezekiel Dogara.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Kaduna State, particularly as armed groups continue to target rural communities and security personnel.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful, as its spokesperson, DSP Mansur Hassan, could not be reached by phone at the time of filing the report.
