Iran’s armed forces have warned countries in the Gulf against providing assistance to the United States military, saying any form of support could be viewed as participation in American military operations against Iran.
Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ali Abdollahi issued the warning on Wednesday, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency.
Iran Warns Against Military Assistance
Abdollahi said Gulf countries should be aware that allowing the US military to use their facilities or providing other forms of assistance could make them parties to the ongoing conflict.
He questioned how a large number of US military aircraft, particularly refuelling planes, could operate from bases in the region without the knowledge of the countries hosting those facilities.
Iran has previously warned Gulf countries against allowing their territory or military bases to be used for attacks against the country.
Abdollahi said Tehran was closely monitoring developments across the region, including the activities of countries bordering the Persian Gulf.
US Aircraft Carrier Redeployed
The warning comes as the USS George Washington aircraft carrier is being redeployed to the Middle East.
The carrier is expected to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has faced reports of deteriorating living conditions for members of its crew.
The latest development comes amid heightened military tensions between Iran and the United States.
According to the report, the conflict began on February 28, following US-Israeli attacks on Iran, which responded with missile and drone strikes targeting locations including US military bases across the region.
Iran’s latest warning highlights the growing risk that the conflict could draw more countries in the Middle East into the confrontation.
