French Ligue 1 club Monaco have announced plans to terminate the contract of former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba following a series of injuries that have limited his return to top-level football.
The club confirmed the decision on Wednesday, saying the objectives set when Pogba joined had only been partially achieved.
Pogba, 33, had a contract with Monaco that was scheduled to run until June 2027, but the club has now decided to end the agreement.
Injuries Disrupt Pogba’s Comeback
The French midfielder is currently recovering from a thigh injury, having only recently returned from a knee problem.
Pogba’s career has been heavily affected by injuries and a doping suspension in recent years, making it difficult for the 2018 World Cup winner to regain his previous form.
His move to Monaco was seen as an opportunity to revive his career and return to regular competitive football.
However, his latest injury setback has contributed to the club’s decision to part ways with him.
Monaco Praise Pogba’s Influence
Despite ending his contract, Monaco praised Pogba for his attitude and contribution to the squad.
The club highlighted his determination, professionalism and high standards, saying he remained a positive influence even while dealing with injuries.
Monaco also said the midfielder shared his experience and knowledge with younger members of the squad.
Pogba will now face another uncertain period as he considers the next stage of his career, having struggled to maintain regular football since his return from his doping suspension.
