The Nigerian football community has been left stunned after Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu, who was reportedly pronounced dead after collapsing during a pre-season match, was later found alive in a mortuary.
The 18-year-old defender collapsed on Tuesday during Katsina United’s pre-season clash with Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Chinedu, who recently joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars, was immediately rushed to K-Dara Specialist Hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors reportedly pronounced him dead, prompting Katsina United to issue a condolence message. Other clubs, including Heartland FC and Kano Pillars, also took to social media to mourn the young player.

The situation took an extraordinary turn when mortuary workers at Katsina General Hospital reportedly noticed movement in Chinedu’s body.
He was quickly transferred to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and placed on oxygen as medical personnel continued efforts to stabilise him.
Katsina United media officer, Nasir Gide, confirmed the development, claiming that Chinedu had been declared dead twice before signs of life were reportedly detected.
Heartland FC, one of the defender’s former clubs, also confirmed the development and called on supporters and fans to pray for his recovery.

As of Wednesday morning, the young footballer was still in critical condition at Katsina General Hospital.
