Rising heavyweight boxing sensation Moses Itauma has made a high-profile return to Nigeria as part of a new partnership with Bet9ja, marking what he described as both a “homecoming” and “a mission to reconnect with his roots.”
The 20-year-old British-Nigerian boxer, who has been hailed as one of the brightest young prospects in the global boxing scene, arrived in Lagos this week for a series of promotional events, youth training camps, and media engagements. Itauma’s visit, organized in collaboration with the Bet9ja Foundation, also includes plans to support grassroots boxing development and renovate a Lagos-based gym to train local fighters.
“This visit is very personal for me,” Itauma told reporters. “Nigeria is home. Everything I am started from my parents’ background here. I want to give back — to the young boxers who don’t have the kind of facilities I was lucky to access in the UK.”
The partnership between Itauma and Bet9ja is being described as a step toward strengthening Nigeria’s domestic boxing infrastructure. Bet9ja’s managing director, Kunle Soname, emphasized the company’s commitment to youth development through sports. “We believe in creating platforms that allow young Nigerians to express their talent. Moses embodies the success story of what’s possible when raw talent meets opportunity,” Soname said.
Itauma, who has an unblemished professional record so far, revealed that his long-term ambition is to stage a fight in Nigeria — a goal he says would complete his personal and professional journey. “The ultimate dream,” he said, “is to bring a big title fight to Lagos. That would mean everything to me.”
Sports analysts note that his return could reignite interest in professional boxing across Nigeria, especially among young fighters who have struggled with poor training conditions and limited exposure. The visit is also seen as a nod to the country’s long boxing history, from legends like Dick Tiger to modern icons such as Anthony Joshua.
With the enthusiasm surrounding his return, industry observers predict Itauma’s involvement could attract international attention — potentially paving the way for a major fight night in Nigeria’s near future.
