NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF TOWN PLANNERS CONFIRMED AS PANELIST FOR PAGMACA 2026 IN ABUJA

The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), FCT Chapter, led by its Chairman, TPL. Queen Imalue Philips FNITP, RTP, FICMC, has been confirmed as a distinguished panelist for the 8th Papyrus Global Local Government Chairmen/Mayors Conference & Awards (PAGMACA) 2026.

The announcement was made by The Papyrus Global, organisers of the high-level international conference scheduled to hold from April 29th to May 1st, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria. The event is expected to bring together local government chairmen, mayors, policymakers, development partners, and governance experts from over twenty countries across Africa.

The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners will contribute to a strategic panel discussion focused on the theme “Urban Planning & Population Growth,” a topic considered critical in addressing the growing challenges of urbanisation, infrastructure pressure, and sustainable city development across African cities.

Under the leadership of TPL. Queen Imalue Philips FNITP, RTP, FICMC, the Institute is expected to provide professional insight into urban planning systems, spatial development, and policy frameworks that can help local governments respond more effectively to rapid population expansion while promoting sustainable and organised urban environments.

The organisers described the Institute’s participation as a significant addition to the conference, noting that its expertise will enrich discussions and support practical policy solutions for urban governance across the continent.

According to the organisers, the involvement of NITP comes at a critical time when African cities are facing increasing pressure from population growth and infrastructure deficits, requiring innovative and sustainable planning approaches.

PAGMACA 2026 is expected to serve as a major platform for dialogue on governance, urban development, economic growth, and community sustainability, while also recognising excellence in local leadership across Africa.

The conference aligns with broader development objectives aimed at strengthening urban resilience and advancing national and continental policy priorities, including Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
