Nigerian singer and entertainer Charles Onyeabor has reacted emotionally to the high‑profile road crash involving world boxing champion Anthony Joshua, saying the tragedy highlights deep‑rooted concerns about Nigeria’s infrastructure and safety environment. Joshua was involved in a serious accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on 29 December 2025; he survived with minor injuries but lost two associates in the crash.
In statements shared on social media, Onyeabor tied the public’s shock and widespread empathy to broader frustrations about road safety challenges in the country. He said it is “painful to see road accidents continue to claim lives whether they involve ordinary citizens or international figures like Joshua without sustained systemic improvements to highways, enforcement and emergency response.”
The singer’s comments resonated with many Nigerians who have for years urged government and agencies such as the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Federal Ministry of Works to prioritise road repairs, proper signage, effective policing and rapid response systems. Onyeabor also used the moment to call for greater accountability and action to ensure tragedies like this become far less common, stressing that national development must include secure highways and protecting human life on major routes.
His message has sparked renewed public debate about Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure, safety standards and what concrete policy steps are needed to prevent continued loss of life on key highways.
