A coalition of youth organisations under the umbrella of the Northern Youth Frontiers has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu following his declaration of insecurity and poverty as national emergencies.
In a statement issued by its chairman, Sama Musa, the group described the move as a timely response to long-standing challenges affecting northern Nigeria, noting that insecurity and poverty have continued to hinder development, peace, and economic activity in the region.
The coalition said the President’s remarks reflect grassroots concerns and signal a renewed policy focus on addressing key national issues.
It highlighted ongoing government initiatives, including the recruitment of 45,000 youths into community security structures and the deployment of 10,000 Agro-Rangers by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to improve rural safety and protect farmlands.
The group also referenced expanded social welfare programmes, including cash transfers to vulnerable households, pension reforms, and efforts to clear outstanding arrears, describing them as steps toward economic stability.
On infrastructure, it cited major projects such as the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline as key to job creation and industrial growth.
However, the coalition urged government to ensure transparent and effective implementation of intervention schemes, including MSME support funds and agricultural development programmes, to benefit small businesses and rural communities.
It reaffirmed support for ongoing reforms while calling for sustained dialogue among stakeholders to maintain national stability.
