The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to eleven academic programmes at Cosmopolitan University, marking a significant achievement for the institution in its drive to strengthen academic quality and expand its reputation within Nigeria’s higher education sector.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Mani Ibrahim, who described the development as a major milestone in the university’s journey toward becoming a globally competitive centre of learning and research.

According to the statement, the accreditation followed a rigorous evaluation exercise conducted by the NUC, Nigeria’s regulatory body for university education. The assessment reportedly covered key areas including the quality of academic staff, curriculum relevance, teaching facilities, learning resources, governance structure and infrastructural development.

The accredited programmes include Nursing Science, Public Health, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Criminology and Security Studies, as well as International Relations and Diplomacy.

University management said the approval confirms that the programmes meet the minimum academic and professional standards required for tertiary institutions in Nigeria and demonstrates the institution’s commitment to delivering quality education capable of producing competent and industry-ready graduates.

“Achieving this recognition from the primary regulatory body is a significant step forward in the university’s growth and its mission to build a world-class academic environment,” the statement noted.

The accreditation is expected to boost confidence among prospective students, parents and stakeholders, especially in highly competitive and professional disciplines such as nursing, engineering and technology-related courses where regulatory approval is considered essential for career advancement and professional certification.

Registrar Mani Ibrahim further stated that the university would continue to invest heavily in modern learning facilities, innovative research, digital technology and human capital development to sustain academic excellence and enhance the student experience.

He also appreciated parents, students and partners for their support and trust in the university’s vision, pledging that the institution would maintain transparency, diligence and high standards in its operations.

“As we look toward the future, Cosmopolitan University remains deeply committed to academic integrity, institutional growth, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge,” Ibrahim added.

Education analysts say the latest accreditation reflects the increasing competition among Nigerian universities to improve standards, especially in science, technology, healthcare and security-related disciplines that are critical to national development.

The approval is also expected to strengthen the university’s profile as it seeks to attract more students from across Nigeria and beyond, while positioning itself as a centre for intellectual growth, innovation and professional training in line with global best practices in higher education.
