LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY ADVOCATE ALIYU HARUNA KANKARA CONFIRMED AS SPECIAL GUEST AND AWARD RECIPIENT AT PAGMACA 2026

Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, National President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, has formally confirmed his participation as Special Guest of Honour and Award Recipient at the Papyrus Global Mayors Conference & Awards (PAGMACA) 2026.

He will be honoured in recognition of his consistent advocacy for local government autonomy in Nigeria and his longstanding efforts in defending the rights and welfare of workers across Nigeria and the wider African region.

Organisers of the event noted that his confirmation significantly strengthens the conference, emphasizing that local government employees—under institutions like NULGE—serve as the primary executors of public policies at the grassroots level. His presence, they stated, reinforces the importance of aligning policy formulation with effective implementation, making his participation both timely and strategic.

As Special Guest of Honour, Comrade Kankara will participate in select high-level engagements and interactions with mayors, policymakers, and development stakeholders, contributing to discussions around strengthening governance systems at the local level.

The Papyrus Global Mayors Conference & Awards (PAGMACA) 2026 is scheduled to take place from April 29th to May 1st, 2026, at The Palms Hotel, located in the Central Business District, Abuja, Nigeria. The event continues to position itself as a leading platform for promoting effective, inclusive, and people-centred governance across Africa.
