Payaza partners Lebara Nigeria to power integrated digital payment platform

Nigerian fintech company Payaza has entered into a strategic partnership with Lebara Nigeria to provide the payment infrastructure for the telecom company’s digital platform as it expands beyond traditional voice and data services.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Lagos and is expected to enable Lebara subscribers to access payment and other digital services through a single integrated platform.

Expanding beyond telecom services

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Lebara Nigeria’s Director of Consumer Business, Yinka Isioye, said the collaboration is aimed at building a sustainable digital ecosystem that combines connectivity with financial and lifestyle services.

He noted that the telecommunications industry is evolving beyond voice calls and internet access, with consumers increasingly demanding integrated digital experiences.

According to him, the partnership will allow Lebara to move beyond providing connectivity by supporting customers’ broader digital lifestyles through seamless payment services.

Seamless and secure payments

Payaza’s Country Manager for Nigeria, Taiwo Adeeko, said the partnership would allow customers to make payments directly on the Lebara platform using bank cards and other alternative payment methods without unnecessary complexity.

He added that security, reliability and customer confidence would remain central to the payment experience, while the company continues to strengthen its infrastructure against fraud and other risks.

Supporting Africa’s digital economy

Payaza’s Chief Technology Officer, Philips Akinyele, said the collaboration also has the potential to simplify digital transactions across Africa, where multiple currencies and payment systems often create barriers to seamless cross-border services.

He described Lebara’s expansion into Africa, beginning with Nigeria, as a significant development that could improve digital connectivity for both local consumers and international travellers.

Focus on customer experience

Payaza’s Executive Advisor for Innovation and Research, Fawaz Abaniwonda, said the agreement reflects the company’s commitment to developing customer-focused solutions that improve everyday digital experiences.

He described Lebara’s decision to choose Payaza as a strong endorsement of the fintech company’s technology, infrastructure and ability to support global businesses entering the Nigerian market.

Driving digital and financial inclusion

Lebara Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Teniola Stuffman, said the partnership aligns with the company’s “Telco Trinity” strategy of delivering reliable, affordable and customer-centred services.

According to him, integrating Payaza’s payment technology into Lebara’s platform will transform mobile connectivity into a gateway for broader digital and financial empowerment, helping to promote greater financial inclusion and access to digital services across Nigeria.
