More than 20 people have reportedly been killed and several others injured after armed attackers invaded Binper community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, leaving residents in shock and forcing security concerns to rise across the community.
Gunmen Attack Residents In Their Homes
An eyewitness, Daniel Musa, said the attackers were heavily armed and moved from house to house during the assault.
According to him, the gunmen reportedly forced their way into homes where residents were sleeping and attacked them.
“Our village came under attack last night and in the early hours of today, Tuesday, by heavily armed persons,” Musa said.
He added that more than 20 deaths had been confirmed as of Tuesday morning, while several people sustained serious injuries and others remained missing.
Residents Demand Urgent Security Action
Another resident, John Dalyop, confirmed the attack and described the situation as devastating.
Dalyop called on the new Plateau State Commissioner of Police and other security authorities to take immediate action to identify and arrest those responsible.
He also urged the state and Federal Governments to strengthen security around vulnerable communities in Mangu and other areas of Plateau State.
According to him, injured victims had been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while community leaders and residents were working to identify those still missing.
Security Operatives Deployed
Security personnel were reportedly deployed to the community on Tuesday morning to restore calm and prevent further violence.
However, authorities had yet to publicly confirm the number of casualties or identify those behind the attack at the time of filing the report.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from security agencies were unsuccessful.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Plateau State, where rural communities have repeatedly faced deadly attacks.
