Operatives of the Obowo Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State, working with community stakeholders, have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 21-year-old nursing student, Wenda Achumba.
The victim, a Post-Basic Nursing student of the Mercy College of Nursing Science, Umulogho, was found dead in her off-campus residence at Umuadara in Obowo Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, the suspects, Onyema Okonkwo, 32, and Emmanuel Onyekachi, 25, both from the same community, were arrested following intelligence-led investigations.
The police said one of the suspects confessed to attacking the victim and attempting to conceal the crime, while also implicating the second suspect during interrogation.
The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, assured that the case is being handled with seriousness and professionalism, adding that anyone found culpable will be brought to justice.
The command also urged calm in the community, saying further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
